Almin Residovic

On February 8, in Jacksonville, Florida, a routine patrol turned into a life-or-death rescue. A violent carjacking and kidnapping resulted in the abduction of a one year old child. The suspect led officers in an intense pursuit, which ended in a devastating crash. One of the vehicles erupted into flames.

Inside was an unconscious woman.

With fire consuming the car, Jacksonville Officer Almin Residovic did not hesitate. He sprinted toward the burning vehicle, broke through the window, climbed into the inferno, and pulled the woman from the driver’s seat just moments before the car was engulfed in flames. He dragged her to safety and immediately began rendering aid until paramedics arrived.

Another officer rescued the abducted one-year-old child who was still trapped in the backseat of the stolen car. Both the child and the woman survived. The suspect was taken into custody and now faces multiple felony charges.

No headline can convey the courage required to put your life between danger and a stranger. But the impact is undeniable. Because of the pair of officers’ decisive actions and selfless bravery, a woman is alive and a kidnapped child is safely returned to their family.

Stories like this remind us that behind every badge is a person willing to run into fire to rescue the people they serve. That is heroic. That is valor.
