The holiday season is one filled with joy and spending dedicated time with those we cherish. We gather, sit around a warm fireplace, sip hot chocolate, and share memories that fill our souls. Yet, as we enjoy this window of rest, there are countless men and women out in our neighborhoods, walking in the cold and snow, doing their job – working to keep us safe.
This holiday season, we lift up the officers that aren’t taking a holiday. During these occasions, they sacrifice precious time with their families and loved ones to ensure that we can safely enjoy the season of celebration. Our leisure is made possible through the service and protection of our local law enforcement professionals.
We do not need to look very hard to see the real public safety impact of their work.
For many on duty, that impact is through the regular patrolling of our neighborhoods for criminal activity. For others, it is monitoring the roads for those driving drunk, protecting families visiting loved ones without fear of their lives being placed in danger.
For those in the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, it is chasing a reckless driver who is potentially connected to a double homicide.
And for more of our officers, it is serving their local communities through food drives that feed thousands of underprivileged or struggling families within their communities.
This important work does not stop, even for holidays where most of us take a break from work. So this holiday season, thank a law enforcement officer. Their service and sacrifice means we get to safely enjoy time with our families and friends. Their selfless work keeps us safe.
